It’s hard to believe with all the snow this winter and the rain that has fallen in the past 36 hours, but Northwest Georgia is on the verge of some serious drought conditions.  Climatoligist say that the area is around 16 inches below normal rainfall and that conditions could worsen.

Climatoligist William Schmidt said that the area is now in a stage of "moderate drought".  The only significant moisture in the area in the month of February was from snow fall and no measurable rainfall.  During periods of drought groundwater tables drop and the threat to wells is serious.
