A Chattooga County sheriff’s deputy responded to a call on Sunday from the Union 76 gas station in Gore regarding an intoxicated man who was attempting to purchase more alcohol.

By the time the deputy arrived on the scene, the suspect had left the gas station.  The deputy found the man at a residence on Silver Hill Road.  The deputy watched the suspect “stumbling around the yard” after exiting the vehicle he had been driving.

The deputy spoke with thirty-eight-year-old William Patrick Scoggins who told the deputy that he had “six beers and a few shots of liquor.”

According to the report from the sheriff’s office, “After advising the subject he was under arrest we walked him inside his residence where in plan sight was a bottle of liquor and several open beer cans in the house. The subject advised that he had been drinking all night and ran to the store and advised again that if we just let him go that he would not
drive again. ”

Scoggins was placed under arrest on charges of DUI and was taken to the Chattooga County Jail.
