Scam artists are once again hitting the area in an attempt to obtain personal and private information from individuals through the use of phony e-mails – otherwise known as a `phishing` scam.

These individuals often attempt to tie the e-mails in with a legitmate business in the area in an effort to give them an air of `legitimacy` – this time the e-mails purport to be from TDS Telecom and they are requesting information which they claim is to be used in the `updating of their records`.

Those receiving the e-mails, are asked to provide private information – such as their social security number, among other things.

TDS Telecom is in no way connected with these e-mails – and company officials stress they would never ask for information in such a manner.
