A small earthquake struck the area on Saturday morning. The earthquake’s epicenter was located 2.3 miles west of Menlo, just across the state line in Cherokee County, Alabama.
According to the University of Memphis Center for Earthquake Research and Information, the quake occurred at 5:02 AM, Central Time. The quake measured 2.2 in magnitude and was located 10.95 kilometres, or approximately 6.8 miles, below the earth’s surface.
A 2.7 magnitude earthquake hit near Chickamauga later on Saturday night.
Small earthquakes like these are not uncommon in our area.
