The Chattooga County Board of Education is considering a renewal of the education SPLOST. The special purpose local option sales tax – or SPLOST – is used for buildings and infrastructure repair. Chattooga County voters would have to approve the measure for the educational SPLOST to continue. Both the Chattooga County Board of Education and the Trion Board of Education would have to request the measure to be on the ballot. The boards of education have the option of calling for a special election for approval of the SPLOST, but it is more likely that the measure would come up in a scheduled election.
