By the end of the day today, Trion will have a new mayor elect and voters will have chosen from candidates in the mayoral elections in Summerville and Menlo as well.

Today is election day and voters in three of the county’s four municipalities will be headed to the polls to cast their ballots in elections that will determine the mayor of Trion, Summerville and Menlo – along with city council seats in each municipality.

The City of Menlo is having it’s first contested mayoral race in many years.  Incumbent Mayor Theresa Canada has been in office for over three decades and has rarely faced any opposition.  This year, real estate agent Allan Keen is challenging Canada.  Voters in Menlo are also deciding if they will allow package liquor to be sold within the city limits.  Summerville voters also have an alcohol referendum on the ballot.

Voting will continue until 7 PM in Summerville, Trion and Menlo.  Be sure to bring a picture ID when you come to vote.
