It’s becoming more and more common in large metropolitan areas, and many people agree that it is necessary for the future – electric vehicle charging stations are being built all across the country.  Summerville Mayor Harry Harvey hinted at a recent city council meeting, that electric charging stations are something Summerville should consider.

Right now, electric charging stations show up on Google maps, and should Summerville add a charging station, it could increase tourist traffic and travelers to the area.

Mayor Harvey said, “We are going to look at charging stations and what we need to do.”  The mayor noted that the cost for the charging stations has dropped dramatically over the past several years.

A citizen suggested that the city install a charging station several years ago, and at the time it was more than the city was willing to invest.  The mayor’s comments come at a time when Georgia is seeing a definite uptick in the number of electric vehicles being sold.

The latest data shows that there are close to 25,000 electric vehicles on the road in Georgia – with the majority of them located in the Atlanta area.
