With Labor Day weekend’s holiday travel period kicking off tomorrow evening, you can expect to see plenty of state troopers on Georgia roadways over the next several days. 

Sgt. Christopher Jewell told the Georgia News Network, “The Labor Day holiday patrol starts this weekend, beginning Friday at about 6 p.m. It’s going to extend all the way through Monday evening, just before midnight. And… we’ll be out in full force. About 75% of our personnel will be on the roads and highways at any given time during the entire holiday patrol.”

According to AAA, this Labor Day weekend will be the busiest the roads have been in a couple of years But… it isn’t just going to be those making one last trip to the beaches or the lakes who are going to be hitting the road – it also coincides with college football’s season opener.

Last year, 358 people were arrested for DUIs on Georgia’s roadways over the Labor Day travel period.  The Georgia State Patrol is reminding residents to buckle up, put the cell phone down and never, ever drink and drive.
