James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park is set to host a day of excitement and outdoor exploration with its annual Outdoor Adventure Day and Kid’s Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, September 27th, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The event promises a wide array of activities designed for all ages, with a special focus on young fishing enthusiasts.
A highlight of the day will be the Kid’s Fishing Rodeo, open to children aged 15 and under. Young anglers will have the unique opportunity to try their luck at catching specially tagged catfish, with successful catches earning them exciting prizes. Participants are reminded to bring their own fishing poles and bait. Adding to the convenience, September 27th has been designated a Free Fishing Day across Georgia, meaning state residents do not require a fishing license to participate in the day’s angling activities.
Beyond the fishing excitement, the Outdoor Adventure Day boasts a robust lineup of interactive and educational experiences. Attendees can hone their aim with archery opportunities, be captivated by a thrilling birds of prey show, test their agility on a climbing wall, get creative with vibrant face painting, and learn about local wildlife during an engaging reptile show.
While the event itself offers free admission, there is a $5 per vehicle parking fee required upon entry to James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park.
This special event is part of the larger National Hunting and Fishing Day celebrations, aimed at promoting outdoor recreation, conservation, and appreciation for Georgia’s natural resources.
