A fatal accident on Highway 48 Friday afternoon shortly after 5 PM took the life of one woman and sent another to Erlanger Medical Center with extensive injuries. The accident occurred on Marks Hill just west of Summerville.
Both women were driving Sports Utility Vehicles. The names have not been released however, we do know that the woman that was injured was from Chattooga County and the woman that was killed was from Floyd County.
Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol say that it appears the Chattooga County Woman was on the wrong side of the road when she topped the hill and crashed into the Floyd County woman’s vehicle. Traffic on Highway 48 was being routed around Back Berryton Road for around 2 hours as emergency workers cleaned up the crash sight.
Troopers from the Rome Post of the Georgia State Patrol, along with Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputies, Chattooga County EMS and Summerville and Menlo Fire Departments along with Rescue Workers were all on the scene.
Georgia State Patrol Troopers told AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio that names probably would not be released until sometime tomorrow morning. Stay tuned to AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio and chattoogainfo.com for updates as they become available.
