
A Chattooga County woman was killed in a single vehicle accident on Friday afternoon in Chattooga County. The Georgia State Patrol released the following statement:
On Friday, January 20, 2023, at 3:13 pm, Troopers from Post 38 Rome responded to a one vehicle crash on Orchard Hill Road in Chattooga County. A Buick Encore was traveling north on Orchard Hill Road when the driver left the roadway and struck a tree, causing the vehicle to catch fire. The driver of the Buick was pulled to safety, but the passenger was trapped inside the vehicle and was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver was seriously injured and transported to a regional hospital. The Georgia State Patrol Troop A Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating.
The Georgia State Patrol has not released the name of the driver or passenger, but family members have posted on social media that the passenger that lost her life was Samantha Smith of Summerville.
