The annual Finster Fest is set to return to Paradise Garden in Pennville on September 20 and 21, promising a rich tapestry of art, crafts, music, and southern food. This year’s celebration holds particular significance with the highly anticipated grand opening of Howard Finster’s Worlds Folk Art Church, adding a new landmark to the iconic folk art environment.

Finster Fest, a beloved tradition, will showcase over 70 folk, craft, and fine artists, featuring nationally recognized self-taught artists representing 14 states, including the talented creators of Northwest Georgia. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to browse and purchase one-of-a-kind pieces, immersing themselves in the spirit of outsider art.

A cornerstone of this year’s event is the public unveiling of Howard Finster’s Worlds Folk Art Church. This permanent addition further enriches the experience of touring Finster’s visionary Paradise Garden, where patrons can explore the celebrated folk art environment that inspired countless artists and admirers.

Beyond the visual arts, the festival will resonate with diverse musical performances held across various parts of Paradise Garden. The two-day lineup promises a genre-spanning experience, featuring folk, Americana, gospel, bluegrass, indie, and country artists, ensuring there’s something to delight every ear.

Special guest presentations will include an insightful collector talk focusing on the Howard Finster art exhibit, “Saving Souls: How Howard Finster Used Prints to Multiply His Message.” This presentation will offer a deeper understanding of Finster’s unique approach to spreading his spiritual and artistic message.

Patrons can enjoy barbecue ribs and chicken with all the traditional trimmings, alongside local favorites from the Chattooga Garden Club, including their famous Paradise pimento cheese sandwich, decadent pound cake, and refreshing sweet tea. Finster Fest will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Friday, September 20, and Saturday, September 21. General admission is $10, with children 12 and under admitted free. Residents of Chattooga County and Paradise Garden members receive a discounted admission of $5.

Convenient free parking will be available at the Walmart on U.S. 27, just north of Paradise Garden, with a complimentary 3-minute shuttle service provided throughout the day. Handicap parking will be available on-site at the garden.
