The first rounds of COVID-19 vaccines are now on en route to local governments

UPS and FedEx  trucks carrying the first U.S. shipment of coronavirus vaccine have left Pfizer’s facility near Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The highly anticipated vaccine will be given out in phases starting with the healthcare workers and those most vulnerable, including the elderly, those in long term care facilities and nursing homes, and with the pre-existing conditions.

Per Dr. Gary Voccio, the health director for the Northwest Health District,

“We’ve had numerous discussions with all of the local healthcare providers,” Dr. Voccio said.  “We have a COVID vaccine coalition out together by Dr. Ed McBride and we are coordinating with all the healthcare facilities in Northwest Georgia and the large practice groups.”

Plans are already underway locally for the vaccine distribution.
