First-time unemployment claims took a sharp jump in Chattooga County and most other Northwest Georgia counties according to numbers released yesterday by the Georgia Department of Labor.In Chattooga County initial claims jumped up by 38 in the month of November over the number reported in October.  In Walker County the jobless claims jumped by 222 from the previous month and Whitfield County saw an increase of 1,682 in November.Across the state, Georgia’s Unemployment rate jumped up to 10.1 percent – it had fallen below 10 percent for the first time in almost two years in October.  The Georgia Department of Labor said that the increase is due to new lay-offs and an increase in the number of the long-term unemployed.
