Chattooga County has recorded close to 5" of rain as a result of the storms that have moved through the county over the past two days.  County road crews were busy trying to keep up with all the flooded roadways and removing debris from drainage tiles throughout the county.  The Chattooga River crested a little over 2 feet above flood stage and is expected to begin receeding later today.  Here is the weather statement from the National Weather Service:

 

THE COUNTY FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 830 AM EST THURSDAY FOR MURRAY… CATOOSA… WHITFIELD… WALKER… GORDON… CHATTOOGA AND FLOYD COUNTIES…

AT 630 PM EST… OTHER THAN A FEW SPRINKLES OR SNOW FLURRIES… SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL HAD MOVED OUT OF THE AREA AND NO ADDITIONAL RAINFALL OF SIGNIFICANCE IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT FEW DAYS. HOWEVER… EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM HEAVY RAINFALL… ON THE ORDER OF 4 TO 6 INCHES TUESDAY… WILL CONTINUE OVERNIGHT TONIGHT. THIS WILL RESULT IN SEVERAL CREEKS… STREAMS… AND RIVERS REMAINING ABOVE FLOOD STAGE THROUGH AT LEAST EARLY THURSDAY. SOME OF THE CREEKS AND STREAMS ARE EVEN ABOVE MODERATE FLOOD STAGE AT THIS TIME.

AT 630 PM EST… THE SOUTH CHICKAMAUGA CREEK NEAR CHICKAMAUGA WAS AT 22.4 FEET AND STILL SLOWLY RISING. FLOOD STAGE IS 18 FEET.

AT 630 PM EST… THE CONASAUGA RIVER NEAR ETON WAS AT 17.2 FEET AND SLOWLY FALLING. FLOOD STAGE IS 12 FEET.

AT 630 PM EST… THE CONASAUGA RIVER 10 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF DALTON WAS AT 17.1 FEET AND SLOWLY RISING. FLOOD STAGE IS 18 FEET.

AT 630 PM EST… THE COAHULLA CREEK AT KEITHS MILL NEAR DALTON WAS AT 20.3 FEET AND RISING SLOWLY. FLOOD STAGE IS 16 FEET.

AT 630 PM EST… THE OOSTANAULA RIVER IN CALHOUN WAS AT 24.4 FEET AND STILL SLOWLY RISING. FLOOD STAGE IS 20 FEET. MODERATE FLOOD STAGE IS 25 FEET.

AT 630 PM EST… THE OOTHKALOOGA CREEK NEAR CALHOUN WAS AT 17.3 FEET AND FALLING. FLOOD STAGE IS 18 FEET.

AT 630 PM EST… THE COOSAWATTEE RIVER AT PINE CHAPEL WAS 23.1 FEET AND BEGINNING TO SLOWLY FALL. FLOOD STAGE IS 22 FEET.

AT 630 PM EST… THE ARMUCHEE CREEK NEAR ARMUCHEE WAS AT 23.3 FEET AND STILL SLOWLY RISING. FLOOD STAGE IS 19 FEET. MODERATE FLOOD STAGE IS 25 FEET.

AT 630 PM EST… THE OOSTANAULA RIVER AT ROME WAS 29.6 FEET… JUST SHY OF THE FLOOD STAGE OF 30 FEET. THE RIVER IS VERY SLOWLY RISING AND WILL LIKELY CREST NEAR THE FLOOD STAGE.

AT 630 PM EST… THE COOSA RIVER SIX MILES SOUTHWEST OF ROME WAS NEAR MODERATE FLOOD… 27.9 FEET… AND NEAR STEADY. MODERATE FLOOD STAGE IS 28 FEET. FLOOD STAGE IS 24 FEET.

AT 630 PM EST… THE CHATTOOGA RIVER IN SUMMERVILLE WAS AT 16.8 FEET… JUST SHY OF MODERATE FLOOD… BUT WAS NOW SLOWLY FALLING. FLOOD STAGE IS 14 FEET.

FINALLY… AT 7 AM EST… PLANT HAMMOND ON THE COOSA RIVER IN WESTERN FLOYD COUNTY WAS AT 572.5 FEET. FLOOD STAGE IS 570 FEET AND MODERATE FLOOD STAGE IS 573 FEET.

THE WATER LEVEL OF MOST OF THE CREEKS AND RIVERS WILL BEGIN TO RECEDE OVERNIGHT AND EARLY THURSDAY… BUT MANY WILL REMAIN ABOVE FLOOD STAGE THROUGH AT LEAST EARLY THURSDAY.
