Chattooga County was inundated with a lot of rain in a short period of time, which led to multiple flooding issues throughout the county on Saturday night and into Sunday morning.

Downtown Summerville was flooding around the area of the intersection of Highway 27 and Highway 48, which led to floodwaters getting inside local businesses in the area.

Several roads were covered with water and multiple trees down across the county led to power outages.  Over 800 people were without power from around 2 AM Sunday morning and throughout most of the day on Sunday.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, Raccoon Creek flooded its banks near the intersection of Highway 114.  Water was backed up to Berryton Bible Mission and was moving rapidly over the road.  No road closure signs or warnings were posted and motorists were having to back up in the flooded roadway to avoid the flooding.

According to the Chattooga County School System’s WEATHERLINK, the area received over 4.5 inches of rain within a period of less than 12 hours.

Forecasters say that Northwest Georgia and Northeast Alabama is likely to see more rainfall tonight, with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, but rainfall totals are not expected to be as much as they were on Saturday and early Sunday morning.
