A Floyd County Deputy who was arrested last week is now facing additional charges of theft.
The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that more charges have been filed against a former deputy accused of violating his oath of office.
According to a release, Cody James Waters, 24, is additionally charged with two counts of financial transaction card fraud, two counts of theft by taking and making false statements and writings — all felonies.
Waters is accused of using a debit card belonging to the FCSO’s Drug Awareness and Education Fund to draw money for himself. The latest warrants say he transferred $1,200 to his bank account in New York.
The incidents came to light after an audit turned up some discrepancies, and the sheriff called in the GBI to investigate.
Waters was a sergeant with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office before being fired on Monday of last week.
