Dr. Jeff McDaniel, chief of academics for Floyd County Schools, has been selected as the next superintendent for Floyd County Schools. Dr. McDaniel's selection was announced Monday morning at a called meeting of the Floyd County Board of Education. He was earlier named as one of two finalists in the search for a new superintendent.

McDaniel has served as chief of academics for the last three years and he has been with the school system since 2003. He has also served as executive director of curriculum and director of school improvement for Floyd County Schools. Dr. McDaniel was in Polk County Schools before coming to Floyd County. While in Polk County, he served as director of vocational programs, a school principal, assistant principal, and he was a middle school and high school math teacher. Dr. McDaniel earned his doctor of education degree in educational leadership from the University of Georgia, his educational specialist degree and masters in educational leadership from the University of West Georgia and his undergraduate degree from Northwest Missouri State University.

McDaniel will step into his new role with the system when current superintendent Dr. Lynn Plunkett retires at the end of November. Dr. Plunkett has served as superintendent of Floyd County Schools for the past five years.
