A Floyd County sheriff’s deputy has been arrested after a financial audit revealed irregularities in an account.  Floyd County Sheriff Dave Roberson said that when the problem came to light, he enlisted the help of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to look into the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department’s books.

In a press release Robinson said, “When I took office in January of 2021, I pledged to be transparent with the citizens of Floyd County. Part of that included an audit of all of our financial accounts. During the review, some irregularities were discovered in one of our accounts that warranted an investigation by an outside agency.We contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and asked them to conduct an investigation. As a result of that investigation, it was determined that Sergeant Cody Waters had inappropriately converted funds from one of our bank accounts and used them for his personal use.”

Sheriff Robinson says that Cody Waters employment has been terminated with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office and the GBI has charged Waters with theft by taking, financial transaction card fraud and violation of oath of office.

Robinson added, “We are extremely disappointed that this occurred within our agency. However, these actions cannot and will not be tolerated by anyone that represents our agency. We hold, and will continue to hold, our employees to the highest standards. Our office will continue to be transparent and accountable to the citizens of Floyd County.”

Robinson directed any other questions to the GBI regarding the investigation.
