A former employee of the Summerville Veterinary Clinic has been charged following an investigation into missing funds that police say occurred over several months in late 2025.
According to an incident report from the Summerville Police Department, clinic representatives contacted authorities after discovering suspicious financial activity involving a former employee, Lauren Wilks, 24, of Lyerly. Police say the clinic provided documentation showing multiple transactions were voided after money had been accepted from customers, with the funds never applied to client accounts.
Investigators say the clinic conducted a detailed review of its records and later turned over evidence showing 87 separate transactions, totaling $8,879.10, allegedly occurred during Wilks’ approximately three months of employment. The report states that money was taken from clients, transactions were voided in the system, and the funds were not deposited or credited.
Summerville Police say warrants were obtained for 87 counts of Theft by Conversion following the review of the documentation. The Summerville Veterinary Clinic, located on Old Hix Street, is listed as the victim in the case.
Wilks was arrested in connection with the investigation and charged with theft by conversion. The case remains under review as it moves through the judicial process. As with all cases, the charges are allegations, and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
