A forty-nine-year-old Fort Payne teacher was arrested on Monday after she was found to be intoxicated while at school.  The school’s resource officer responded after complaints about Melissa Ann Harris’ behavior.  Harris was arrested and charged with public intoxication, possession of alcohol on school grounds and possession of a controlled substance.  The last charge was because Harris had a prescription drug that she did not have a prescription for.  Harris was taken to Fort Payne City Jail, processed, then transferred to Dekalb County Detention Center where she was held awaiting bond. Fort Payne Police Department and Fort Payne City School Official’s say that the incident is still under investigation.
