Four people were arrested in Chattooga County for driving under the influence of alcohol over the Independence Day Holiday travel period that started last Friday and ended on Monday.

That is up from last year, when two people were arrested for DUI during the 2021 Fourth of July Holiday travel period.

Anita McDade Price, Ralph Smithey, Jacob Riley Smith and Cassandra Leann Wallin were all charged with driving under the influence over the holiday weekend in Chattooga County.

Although this year’s Fourth of July travel period was seventy-eight hours long as opposed to fifty-four hours in 2021, the fatalities over the July Fourth travel weekend in Georgia this year were almost double those of last year. Over the fifty-four-hour period in 2021, 11 people died on Georgia roads.

Forty-eight hours into the 78-hour July Fourth travel period this year, 17 people had died on Georgia Roads.  The Georgia State Patrol says that driving under the influence continues to be one of the biggest factors in highway deaths in the Peach State.
