What began as an attempt to serve an arrest warrant for another individual unexpectedly led to the drug-related arrest of a Summerville man on Thursday evening. Raleigh Leon Styles, 63, was taken into custody after deputies allegedly discovered methamphetamine and fentanyl in his vehicle.

According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were at 462 Hairlake Road in Summerville shortly before 8 p.m. on July 18, 2025, attempting to locate Grant Burkhalter, who was the subject of an active arrest warrant.

During the operation, Deputy Nick Robinson observed a beige passenger car parked just off the driveway near a camper on the property. The vehicle’s windows were notably fogged over, and a male subject, later identified as Raleigh Styles, was seen sitting in the driver’s seat.

While Cpl. Corey Fielding and Deputy Jonathon Reynolds approached the camper, Deputy Robinson made contact with Styles in the vehicle. Upon questioning Styles about Burkhalter’s whereabouts, Deputy Robinson reported noticing Styles attempting to conceal an object in the middle of the front seat.

Further observation led Deputy Robinson to spot what appeared to be a red and black eyeglass case with a bulge inside, next to a hand-held torch lighter. When asked if the contents of the case were what he suspected, Styles reportedly shook his head in affirmation and replied, “yes sir.”

A subsequent search of the eyeglass case allegedly revealed a glass smoking device with residue and a small zip-lock style bag containing a white, crystal-like substance. The substance later field-tested positive for both methamphetamine and fentanyl.

Styles was then subjected to a probable cause search, followed by a search of his vehicle, a Buick Lesabre with Georgia tag BTT8860, registered to him.

Raleigh Leon Styles was arrested and transported by Cpl. Fielding. He faces charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Schedule II Drug(s) (Fentanyl), and Possession of Drug Related Objects. The vehicle was left on the private property.

Deputies returned to service after Deputy Reynolds confirmed no contact with the initial target, Grant Burkhalter, after checking the rear of the property.
