A Gaylesville man was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence after the log truck he was driving partially overturned on Highway 278 in Hokes Bluff.

According to reports, 61 year old Hershel Miles Yarbrough, was in the process of pulling out of a convenience store parking lot after re-fueling, when the rear tire of the trailer went into a ditch, causing the truck to tip – spilling logs onto the highway.

An estimated 50 gallons plus of diesel fuel, spilled as a result of the mishap – and members of the Hokes Bluff Fire Department quickly began cleaning up the spill.

The remaining fuel was absorbed by a load of sand provided by the City – and then, loaded onto a dump truck for disposal according to the Gadsden-Etowah County EMA.

The roadway was blocked for approximately three hours, finally re-opening about 9:30 Thursday night.

Yarbrough was charged at the scene with DUI, and transported to the Etowah County Detention Center.
