The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) confirms it is investigating a death at the Walker County Jail.

Spokeswoman Nelly Miles says the GBI investigative office in Calhoun got the request on Saturday after the death of 64-year-old Stephen Andrew Johnson of Rossville.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office says deputies arrested Johnson Friday morning on a temporary protective order violation, and was booked at the jail.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office says early Saturday morning, Johnson had trouble breathing. Detention officers rendered first aid and CPR, but Johnson died a short time later.

Johnson’s body is now at the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
