Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr is recognizing Military Consumer Protection Month by providing information to help active-duty service members, veterans, and their families avoid scams and predatory business practices. He emphasized the importance of protecting personal and financial information and stated that his office would take action against businesses exploiting military personnel.

Military members, veterans, and their families often face dishonest business practices that can harm their finances, credit, security clearance, employment, and mental health. To aid in this issue, the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division has developed the Georgia Military Consumer Protection Guide, which informs service members about their rights and ways to protect themselves from common scams. Additionally, there is a Military Consumer Protection Resource Page that offers valuable insights on consumer and financial topics affecting these individuals.

The guide and webpage include various subjects, such as car purchases, housing and renter’s rights, insurance, the Military Lending Act, budgeting, debt collection, identity theft, scams and fraud, and the GI Bill. Georgia service members who believe they have been victims of scams can reach out to the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division by calling (404) 651-8600 or filing an online complaint.
