After the Labor Day Weekend flood, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp declared an emergency in Chattooga County.  That declaration opened the door for the state to provide assistance to Chattooga County Public Works for road and bridge repairs following the flood.

The Georgia Department of Transportation provided support to the county on Dover’s Cut, between Highway 114 and Smallen Road, and also did some work at the Raccoon Creek Bridge on Highway 114.

Georgia DOT spokesman Joseph Schulman told WZQZ News on Friday, “Due to the recent flooding that occurred on September 4, 2022, a state of emergency was issued in Chattooga County. GDOT was performing maintenance repairs due to the flooding in those areas. There was some scouring around the bridge on SR 114 at Raccoon Creek that we repaired. There was also some drift removed. GDOT was assisting the county with repairs on Dovers Cut. Two 36-inch pipes were replaced and the roadway repaved.”
