The Georgia Department of Transportation is planning to build a connecter between U.S. Highway 27 and Georgia Highway 48 in Summerville.  The new route is expected to ease traffic in the downtown Summerville area.  According to the Dalton Daily Citizen, Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) District 6 Engineer Grant Waldrop was on hand for a presentation at Dalton City Hall to give updates on several major infrastructure projects throughout Northwest Georgia.  Speaking about the U.S. Highway 27 – GA 48 connector, Waldrop said, ” The project will connect from U.S. 27 over to State Route 48 and includes a new bridge over the Chattooga River”. Lined up for fiscal year ‘27, he said the estimated project budget is $22 million.
