Georgia health officials confirmed the first coronavirus-related death in Georgia on Friday.  According to Governor Brian Kemp, a 67-year-old man has passed away after being diagnosed with COVID-19. He was hospitalized at WellStar Kennestone in Cobb County since testing positive on March 7.

The Georgia Department of Public Heath says that there are 42 confirmed cases of COVID-19 confirmed in the state.  Testing continues on presumptive cases of the virus.

On Friday, some people on social media saw a post from an individual about a case of COVID-19 in Chattooga County.  That has not been verified or confirmed by public health officials.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, adults who are 60+ and people with serious medical conditioners, such as heart disease and diabetes, are at higher risk of getting very sick from coronavirus.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
