Georgia drivers are seeing a slight reprieve at the pump this week, with average gas prices declining marginally compared to last week. Georgians are currently paying an average of $2.99 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline, though this price is subject to change.

According to AAA, Monday’s state average is a penny less than a week ago, two cents higher than a month ago, and 15 cents lower than last year. Filling a 15-gallon tank now costs approximately $44.85, a savings of nearly $3 compared to last year. “This is a reminder to drivers that we are experiencing a seasonal impact, transitioning from winter gas to the spring mixture, igniting the inevitable rise in prices, as the summer-grade fuel demands a heftier manufacturing cost,” explained Montrae Waiters, AAA-The Auto Club Group spokeswoman. “Good news for Georgians is that we saw a modest dip at the pumps; however, we can’t predict that there won’t be higher gas prices this week.”

Nationally, the average price of gasoline has remained relatively stable, decreasing by a single cent to $3.14 per gallon. Demand for gasoline has decreased slightly, while total domestic gasoline supply has also dipped. Gasoline production averaged 9.2 million barrels per day last week. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that crude oil inventories increased by 4.6 million barrels from the previous week. U.S. crude oil inventories are currently about 3% below the five-year average for this time of year. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil settled at $72.25 a barrel at the close of Wednesday’s trading session.
