Georgia drivers are seeing a “modest reprieve” at the pump as the state’s average gas price continues its downward trend, according to AAA Auto Club. On Monday, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in Georgia stood at $2.89 per gallon, a figure that can fluctuate overnight.

The current state average marks a 2-cent decrease from just a week ago, a 3-cent drop from last month, and an 8-cent reduction compared to prices a year ago. Drivers are now paying an average of $43.35 to fill a standard 15-gallon tank of regular gasoline, which is almost $2.00 less than it cost a year prior.

“With cooler weather and lower demand, gas prices are starting to ease,” stated Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “This is thanks to plenty of crude oil and the switch to winter-blend gasoline, which is cheaper to make and helps keep costs down as the weather cools.”

National Trend Reflects Seasonal Shifts

Nationally, drivers are also experiencing relief as the average price for regular unleaded gasoline has eased to $3.17 per gallon since last Monday, though slight shifts may occur. An abundance of crude oil supply continues to outweigh demand across the country, contributing to the price drops. The seasonal transition to winter-blend gasoline, which is less expensive to produce, is also playing a significant role.

However, not all drivers are finding relief. The Pacific Northwest is experiencing a significant surge in gas prices, with averages jumping more than 20 cents in the past week. This localized pain at the pump is attributed to the shutdown of a major pipeline that transports fuel from Washington to Oregon. The pipeline is reportedly expected to resume operations in a few days.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), national gasoline demand decreased from 9.11 million barrels a day last week to 8.50 million. Total domestic gasoline supply simultaneously increased from 218.5 million barrels to 220 million, while gasoline production slightly decreased, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.
