Georgia drivers are getting a little relief at the pump now that Thanksgiving traffic has eased across the state. After a week of higher demand leading into the holiday, the state average has settled at $2.82 per gallon, as of Monday. That’s five cents lower than last week, two cents higher than last month, and eight cents lower than this time last year.
For the typical driver filling up a 15-gallon tank, today’s average comes out to about $42.30.
Meanwhile, the national average has dipped to $3.00, matching levels not seen since May of 2021. With crude oil prices remaining low and seasonal demand slowing down, many states have already dropped below the $3 mark, and analysts say the downward trend could continue through the rest of the holiday season.
For drivers in Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia, the combination of lower demand and steady supply means fuel prices should remain stable — and possibly even fall a little more — as December gets underway.
The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Savannah ($2.88), Atlanta ($2.86), and Macon ($2.85).
The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($2.70), Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($2.69), and Dalton ($2.68).
Area gas price average are Chattooga ($2.68), Walker ($2.74), Floyd ($2.73), Gordon ($2.72), DeKalb, AL ($2.61), Cherokee, AL ($2.58).
