Georgia drivers are seeing some welcome holiday cheer at the gas pump as prices continue a steady decline just in time for Christmas travel. As of Monday, the statewide average price for a gallon of regular gasoline sits at $2.74, with only minor day-to-day fluctuations expected.
That price reflects a noticeable improvement compared to recent weeks, coming in 2 cents lower than last week, 14 cents lower than last month, and 17 cents cheaper than this time last year. For motorists filling up a standard 15-gallon tank, the total cost now averages about $41.10.
The trend mirrors what’s happening nationwide. The national average gas price has fallen 6 cents over the past week to $2.85 per gallon, making this the cheapest December for fuel since late 2020. Despite increased travel demand during the holidays, gasoline supplies remain steady, helped by lower crude oil prices.
Industry analysts say fuel prices throughout 2025 have been unusually stable, with few major spikes, offering consistent relief for drivers during peak travel seasons. With millions expected to be on the road for Christmas and New Year’s, the lower prices are expected to ease some of the financial pressure associated with holiday travel.
The most expensive metro markets in Georgia are Savannah ($2.82), Atlanta ($2.77), and Hinesville-Fort Stewart ($2.75).
The least expensive metro markets in Georgia are Valdosta ($2.63), Catoosa-Dade-Walker ($2.59), and Augusta-Aiken ($2.55).
Area gas price averages are Chattooga ($2.68), Walker ($2.62), Floyd ($2.64), Gordon ($2.68), DeKalb, AL ($2.54), Cherokee, AL ($2.45).
