The Georgia General Assembly will begin its 40-day legislative session starting next week.  The Georgia House and Georgia Senate will convene for the new session on Monday, January 9, 2022.  Chattooga County will have new representation in the Georgia Senate for the first time in over two decades.

State Senator Colton Moore from Dade County will be representing, Chattooga, Dade, Walker and a portion of Catoosa County in the state senate.  The twenty-nine-year-old Republican will be replacing Jeff Mullis who was first elected in 2001 and was the first Republican to represent Northwest Georgia in the State Senate since Reconstruction.  Moore served one term in the Georgia House before being elected to the senate.  He is a truck driver and works in his family’s cattle and heavy equipment business.

State Representative Eddie Lumsden from Armuchee is returning for another term and represents all of Chattooga County and a portion of Floyd County in the Georgia House.  Lumsden was first elected in 2012 after defeating Democrat Barbara Massey Reece in the General Election.  Lumsden is a retired state trooper.

There will be leadership changes in both houses of the General Assembly this session.  The newly-elected Lt. Governor Burt Jones will be leading the Georgia Senate and the Georgia House will be electing a new House Speaker after the unexpected death of David Ralston in November of last year.
