The Georgia General Assembly recently recognized several organizations and individuals for their significant contributions to the state, according to State Representative Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee). Rep. Lumsden highlighted the honors in a recent statement, emphasizing the “lasting impact” these groups have on Georgia. On Monday, the Assembly paid tribute to the members of the Georgia Electric Membership Cooperatives (EMCs) with an Invitation Resolution on the House Floor.

The recognition stemmed from their tireless efforts in restoring power to communities devastated by Hurricane Helene. “These dedicated individuals worked tirelessly to restore power to hard-hit communities, showcasing both their steadfast commitment to their neighbors and the resilience of our state,” Lumsden stated.

The General Assembly paid honor to Georgia’s rich agricultural history by honoring the state’s tree farmers. Beyond their vital contributions to the agriculture industry, they were also recognized for their crucial role in clearing storm debris and aiding in recovery efforts. The Georgia Farm Bureau, led by former State Representative Tom McCall, was also commended for its unwavering advocacy and support of agriculture, the state’s largest industry.

The General Assembly also recognized the 158th anniversary of Morehouse College. The prestigious institution was lauded for its decades-long commitment to Georgia’s students. Dr. David A. Thomas, President of Morehouse College, was honored for his leadership and successes as he prepares to retire. “It’s an honor to have these incredible organizations and individuals in the House, and we are grateful for their contributions to Georgia,” Rep. Lumsden concluded.

The resolutions served as a formal expression of gratitude for the dedication and service these groups have provided to the state of Georgia.
