Georgia Life Sciences (GLS) has announced State Senator Chuck Hufstetler (R-Rome) as the recipient of its 2025 Legislator of the Year Award, recognizing his significant contributions to advancing the state’s vibrant life sciences sector. The prestigious honor is part of the organization’s annual Golden Helix Awards.
Senator Hufstetler will be formally recognized alongside several other Golden Helix Award winners at the Georgia Life Sciences Summit on August 26, 2025. The summit and awards ceremony will take place at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center.
The Legislator of the Year Award annually honors a lawmaker who champions state and federal policies that foster life sciences research, investment, and innovation within Georgia.
Upon receiving the news, Senator Hufstetler expressed his gratitude, stating, “I am honored to be recognized by Georgia Life Sciences this year. Whether in the operating room or chairing the Senate Committee on Finance, I see firsthand how science impacts Georgians daily. Each legislative session, I lean on my experience as a legislator and medical professional to advocate for Georgians and promote our life sciences community. Today, more than ever, this community is a driving force for better health outcomes, which build a stronger economy and way of life for future generations.”
Senator Hufstetler’s selection is particularly noteworthy given his extensive background in the sciences. A dedicated advocate, he holds a diverse academic portfolio, including a Baking Science and Technology certification from the American Institute of Baking, a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Psychology from the University of Georgia, and a Master’s degree in Medical Science in Anesthesiology from the Emory School of Medicine. This unique blend of legislative experience and medical expertise positions him as a crucial voice for the life sciences community in the State Capitol.
The Golden Helix Awards ceremony is a highlight of the Georgia Life Sciences Summit, bringing together leaders and innovators from across the state’s life sciences ecosystem.
