Christopher Brayden Jones, 23, from Calhoun, Georgia, has been charged with Capital Murder for the death of Marcus Adam Battles, which occurred on April 10, 2025, in Mentone, Alabama. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) issued a Capital Murder warrant for Jones on May 1st. He is currently held at the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia on unrelated charges but will be extradited to DeKalb County, Alabama, to face the murder charge once his issues in Georgia are resolved.

Sheriff Nick Welden praised the teamwork of various law enforcement agencies and the community for their role in solving the case. He described the investigation as a “21-day roller coaster,” emphasizing the extensive efforts made to follow up on tips and theories. Multiple agencies, including the DeKalb County Criminal Investigation Unit and Mentone Police Department, collaborated in gathering evidence and concluding the investigation around May 1st and early May 2nd.

The DCSO acknowledged support from many organizations, including local law enforcement, including the Chattooga County and Gordon County, Georgia sheriff’s offices, the district attorney’s office, and federal entities like the

FBI. Sheriff Welden thanked citizens for their tips and expressed pride in the dedication of the investigation team. He offered condolences to the Battles family, wishing that the arrest would ease their suffering.
