A Tunnel Hill man is facing 25 years behind bars for slashing pastor’s throat at a gas station last May. The suspect entered a guilty plea and was represented by an attorney from Summerville. Superior Court Judge Cindy Morris sentenced Christopher Lamont Swanson, Jr. (35), formerly of Tunnel Hill, to serve a total of 25 years in prison, the maximum allowed, for aggravated battery upon a person over the age of 65 and for possession of a knife during the commission of the crime.
This is according to a release from District Attorney Bert Poston. Swanson, represented by Summerville attorney Steve Miller, had entered a guilty plea to all charges without any negotiated plea agreement with the State.
The victim, Richard Comer was on hand for the trial. Comer has served as a missionary and a pastor in Northwest Georgia.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Baxter who played a store surveillance video of the crime for Judge Morris prior to sentencing.
