GEORGIA NORTHWESTERN TECHNICAL COLLEGE WILL BE SLASHING ITS PAYROLL THIS SUMMER… WITH 8 OR 9 FULL-TIME, NON-FACULTY POSITIONS TO BE ELIMINATED ON JUNE 30th.   SOME POSITIONS, SOON TO BE VACATED BECAUSE OF RETIREMENT, WILL NOT BE FILLED.  THE POSITIONS TO BE CUT WERE NOT IMMEDIATELY NAMED.
   

THE LOSS OF OVER A MILLION DOLLARS IN FEDERAL STIMULUS MONEY WAS GIVEN AS THE CHIEF REASON FOR THE CUTBACKS… ALONG WITH AN ANTICIPATED DECREASE IN TUITION INCOME AS THE RESULT OF HOPE SCHOLARSHIP CUTBACKS.
   

THE TERMINATIONS WILL BE SPREAD MOSTLY ACROSS THE SCHOOL’S ROCK SPRING AND FLOYD COUNTY CAMPUSES, ACCORDING TO SCHOOL PRESIDENT, CRAIG MCDANIEL.  NO SEVERANCE PACKAGE WILL BE OFFERED.
      

IN ADDITION TO THE JOBS BEING ELIMINATED… ANOTHER 15 GNTC WORKERS WILL SEE A REDUCTION IN THEIR CONTRACT FROM THE CURRENT 12 MONTHS, TO 9 OR 10-MONTH STATUS.
