For Georgia Power customers falling behind on utility bill payments, there are more resources to help. Georgia Power is encouraging eligible customers to take advantage of programs they offer to save them money, including the senior citizens discount, and energy assistance program for low-income families.
Georgia Power representative Craig Bell says doing so can shave twenty-four dollars or more off of monthly bills. To offset financial stress due to COVID-19, an installment payment plan is now available to all customers that have missed payments and need to get back on track.
“All you have to do is call in and make arrangements, and we’ll give you from October 2020 to March of 2021 to pay those bills. We’ll waive those late fees,” said Bell. “We want people to take advantage of that because we understand that it’s tough times right now for people.”
Bell also advises installing LED light bulbs, sealing cracks around the home, and setting your thermostat to 78 degrees to optimize energy savings. They can result in savings of up to thirty-five dollars a month, he says.
“We’ve helped save about three hundred million dollars over a five year period for residential customers,” Bell added. “Looking at it from an individual standpoint, that may be a few dollars a month on your energy bill, up to fifty percent.”
