America’s longest-serving sheriff, Cullen Talton of Houston County, Georgia, passed away at the age of 92 after entering hospice care in early October, as confirmed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on Saturday.

Talton served as the Houston County Sheriff for over 50 years, starting in 1972. He entered law enforcement after a career in politics and took pride in serving and protecting his community. Talton was known for his humility, preferring to let his employees take the spotlight. Under his leadership, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office grew significantly, starting with 28 employees and expanding to over 300.
