With the onset of Fall, colors will begin to pop up in the Northeast corner of the state, followed by our area here in Northwest Georgia.  The highest point in Georgia, Brasstown Bald will have the first burst of fall colors. The colors peak at Brasstown Bald well before other parts of North Georgia due to its extraordinary height.  At 4,784 feet above sea level, this is the highest point in Georgia, and it basically has its own micro-climate — similar to Massachusetts.

In our area, Lookout Mountain will begin to see fall colors before lower-lying areas.  Lookout Mountain is 2,338 feet above sea level at its highest point, but that is on the northern end of the mountain.  In Chattooga County, the highest point of Lookout Mountain is just below 2,000 feet.  Cloudland Canyon State Park, located in Dade County on Lookout Mountain, is a popular destination for fall-color enthusiasts.

The best time to view fall colors here in Northwest Georgia will likely be between October 19th – October 28th.
