The Georgia State Patrol post in Rome is hosting a crucial blood drive in partnership with Blood Assurance on Monday, October 14th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. This event, taking place at the State Patrol’s location on 3386 Martha Berry Highway in Rome, Georgia, is an opportunity for the local community to come together and make a life-saving difference.

All donors who participate during the two-week period from October 1st to 15th will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a Solo Stove Yukon 2.0 – a generous incentive that aims to encourage widespread participation. The winner of this exciting prize will be contacted by phone no later than October 21st.

Blood supplies are critically low at this time due to Hurricane Helene.  The hurricane disrupted normal blood donation operations, forcing many blood drives and collection centers to shut down temporarily. With roads blocked, power outages widespread, and medical facilities overwhelmed, the ability to collect, process, and distribute life-saving blood products has been severely hampered. Hospitals are now facing dwindling reserves, unable to replenish stocks to meet the ongoing needs of patients requiring transfusions for surgeries, cancer treatments, chronic conditions, and other urgent medical situations. Blood banks are urgently appealing to the public to come forward and donate, emphasizing that even a single pint can make a tremendous difference.

The organizers of this drive emphasize the importance of donors being well-fed and hydrated, while avoiding energy drinks, in order to ensure a safe and comfortable experience. Potential participants are encouraged to sign up online in advance to secure their spot, though walk-ins are also welcome.
