Two model coaches who were arrested earlier this year may have a new defense in their case.  28 year old former model coach Matthew Blanton and 30 year old former coach Daniel Brown were arrested on sexual assault charges in 2008 as the result of an investigation into a sexual relationship between the coaches and students.The Georgia Supreme Court ruled in a similar case earlier this year that a teacher accused of sexual assault based on a consensual relationship with a student should be able to use the consensual relationship as a basis for defense in court as long as the student has reached the age of consent which is 16 in Georgia.

According to reports at the time of their arrests, Blanton had been carrying on a relationship with a 16 –year- old student and Brown with a 17-year-old student.  The two coaches are scheduled to go to trial sometime in the next few weeks.
