The Georgia High School Association Wrestling State Dual Championship was held yesterday at various high schools across the state. Defending State Champion, Trion High School hosted the Region 1A State Championship tournament.
Eight schools were slated to arrive in Trion yesterday, but only seven made it after St. Anne Pacelli Catholic School had to forfeit. Trion, Irwin County, Commerce, Mt. Pisgah, Landmark Christian School, Social Circle, and Screven all competed to bring home the coveted Championship.
In the end Mt. Pisgah was named the Region 1A State Dual Champion. Commerce came in 2nd, followed by Social Circle and Trion placed 4th. Trion beat Irwin County in the first round, then lost in a heartbreaking tie-breaker to Commerce, to move into the 3rd place bracket, where they lost the final match to Social Circle.
Over the next two weekends, high school wrestlers will compete in Traditional Sectional and Traditional State Wrestling.
