Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed two bills this week that were sponsored in part by State Rep. Eddie Lumsden (R-Armuchee).

House Bill 85 is a bill that is requiring insurance companies to cover biomarker testing that could help patients diagnosed with cancer or certain autoimmune conditions. Biomarker testing is a way to look for genes, proteins, and other substances (called biomarkers or tumor markers) that can provide information about cancer. Each person’s cancer has a unique pattern of biomarkers. Some biomarkers affect how certain cancer treatments work.

Also, the governor signed Senate Bill 65, sponsored by Lumsden in the House, authorizing the insurance commissioner to set up a healthcare policy marketplace.

Lumsden represents Chattooga County and a portion of Floyd County in the Georgia House.
