The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is urging Georgians to buckle up heading into the busy summer travel season.
Crash data shows that the warm months between Memorial Day and Labor Day are some of the most dangerous times to travel on Georgia roadways. State officials say in 2009, 452 Georgians who were not wearing seat belts died in traffic accidents.
Officials are launching a public awareness campaign with events around Georgia.
The first will be held Monday in Columbus, followed by events in Albany, Macon, Atlanta, Dahlonega and Chattanooga, Tenn.
