A thirty-seven-year-old Alabama man reportedly told the Georgia State Patrol he “thought it would be fun” to lead law enforcement officers on a chase through Chattooga and Floyd Counties. 

A report that was released the Friday before Christmas says that Steven Paul Wilson reached speeds of 115 mph while leading state troopers on a chase on Highway 27 late last month.  According to the report, the chase started in Chattooga County and ended in Floyd County when a state trooper’s patrol vehicle came into contact with Wilson’s motorcycle, causing it overturn.  Wilson then initiated a foot chase but was quickly apprehended by troopers.  A gun was found near where Wilson’s motorcycle overturned.  Wilson, who was identified in the report as a member of the “Pegan Motorcycle Club” told the trooper that apprehended him “I guess I’m going to jail now”.  Wilson also reportedly told troopers that he wished he had died or that troopers had “killed him”.

Wilson was taken to a Rome hospital for evaluation and then was booked into the Chattooga County Jail upon his release from the hospital.  He was charged with multiple traffic violations and felony charges of fleeing or attempting to elude and for possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime.
