A man reportedly discharged a firearm on Johnson Road last week as he attempted to ward off a family member that wouldn’t leave his property.
Johnson Road is located off Filter Plant Road in Summerville.
According to Sheriff Mark Schrader, deputies were called to a domestic dispute and when they arrived they discovered that a man had fired a pistol into the air. The man explained to the deputies that he had asked his daughter and two other people to leave his residence. They refused to do so and at some point in the altercation, the man said that the three made threatening moves towards him. At that point, he discharged one round from an handgun into the air. With that, the three decided to leave the man’s residence.
Sheriff Schrader said that while firing a gun into the air is never a good idea, it didn’t appear that the man had broken any laws and he was within his rights firing a warning shot because he felt threatened.
No arrests were made in connection with the incident.
