A handgun was reported stolen in Summerville on Tuesday of this week, after the owner discovered it missing from the glove box of a vehicle, according to a report filed with the Summerville Police Department.
The firearm is described as a Glock 43X 9mm pistol. According to the incident report, the gun had been stored inside the glove compartment of a vehicle parked at a residential location within the city limits. The owner later discovered the weapon was no longer inside the vehicle.
The report indicates the vehicle was locked at the time, and there were no visible signs of forced entry noted in the initial filing. No arrests have been announced, and the case remains under investigation.
Authorities continue to remind gun owners that vehicles are common targets for firearm theft and recommend using secured vehicle lockboxes when temporary storage is necessary. Stolen firearms are typically entered into law-enforcement databases to assist with recovery efforts and to help prevent unlawful resale or use.
